Welcome to the Conserv FS, Inc. web site. If
you are a customer, thanks for your business! If you are a
prospective customer, let me tell you a little about our
company and our FS System.
Conserv Today
Our vision for the company is to "Be the
best, most innovative, diversified cooperative." To achieve this
vision, our company mission is to “Build successful, profitable
partnerships with our patrons”.
Today, we market and distribute over
$100,000,000 of products and services to businesses throughout
northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Conserv has four
product areas; Energy, Crops/Seed, Grain and Turf.
Our energy department sells and delivers FS
branded diesel fuel, gasoline, and lube oils and offers services
associated with these products to farmers and commercial
enterprises.
Our Crops/Seed department serves a thriving
agricultural community, providing area farmers with superior
products and services. Our full service approach allows you to
implement a program that fits your farming practices. From seed
treating capabilities to variable rate application, Conserv FS,
Inc. stays on the leading edge of bringing new products and
services that improve farm profitability.
The grain division provides valuable services
to our agricultural community. With over a million bushels of
storage capacity, we can manage all your grain needs. Specialty
contracts are available as are basis and cash contracts and a
variety of other tools designed to improve your marketing
capabilities.
As urbanization has spread through our trade
territory, growing more houses than corn or beans, we have
evolved our business model with our Turf department. The Turf
Division provides area landscapers, park districts, sports
teams, and school districts with products needed to maintain
healthy turf and ornamental plants.
Our facility operations manage over fourteen
service centers throughout Northern Illinois and Southern
Wisconsin. Our fuel delivery service runs with more than 25
tankwagons. This insures products are available to you on a
timely basis and delivered to the right place at the right time.
How can we improve the profitability of your
business? In most instances we provide our customers with
product recommendations as well as management practice
recommendations. Our industry certified sales people maintain a
high level of knowledge and expertise in their respective areas
and provide value to our customers by solving their problems.
Ongoing training assures you our sales representatives have
access to leading edge product and management practice
information.
The Value of Knowledge
Conserv Certified Crops Specialists use Green Plan software and
Precision Farming techniques to provide an integrated approach
to raising a profitable crop. Properly prepared Nutrient
Management Plans can reduce the amount of crop inputs needed to
raise a crop and minimize the impact cropping operations have on
the environment. Seed and crop protectant recommendations are
matched with fertility levels, yield goals and your management
practices in this process.
Conserv Certified Turf Specialists prepare
integrated nutrient and pest management plans considering field
usage goals, budgets, existing field conditions and preferred
management practices. Turf renovation recommendations are
available. Golf courses present specialized challenges in
greens, tees and fairway turf management. Our golf course sales
representatives have previous course superintendent experience
and one is a Certified Golf Course Superintendent.
Conserv Energy Management Specialists can give
you the latest information on cleaner burning, more
environmentally friendly fuels available such as E-85 and Soy
Diesel. Our new introduced line of high detergency gasoline
AkroGold, helps keep your engines running at peak performance.
Our Sales Specialists will recommend and deliver fuels and
lubricants to reduce exhaust emissions, prolong engine life, and
reduce your downtime. A full line of fuel dispensing equipment
and installation assistance is also available.
Our employees implement our mission statement
with exceptional professionalism each and every working day.
Our History
Today Conserv FS, Inc. services over ten
counties throughout northern Illinois and Wisconsin. Mergers
have played a significant role in enhancing purchasing capacity
and service.
Our first merger was in 1930 between Lake and
Cook County Farm Service Companies. From there more than 50
years passed before the merger with Kenosha – Racine Farm
Supply. Mergers with Riverview FS in 2003 and most recently with
Northern FS in 2004 have brought us to today with over $100
millions in sales.
The FS Cooperative System
Conserv was organized in 1928 under the Illinois Agricultural
Cooperative Act. Local farmers put up the money, in return for
shares of stock, and started the cooperative with the goal the
company would provide products and services needed by the
farmers to raise their crops.
At the same time other farmers in the state
were also forming cooperatives. As more local cooperatives were
formed, a need for a statewide cooperative became evident. So
our regional cooperative, GROWMARK Inc., was formed to provide
purchasing, distribution, and administrative support to the
local cooperatives. Together Conserv and GROWMARK Inc. market
products under the FS brand. And we commonly refer to our fellow
local cooperatives and GROWMARK as the "FS System".
To become a member of our cooperative, two
items need to be addressed. The first is you need to purchase
products or services from us. The second is you will need to
obtain a current membership in a local farm bureau. We will be
happy to assist you in fulfilling both items! Profits earned by
our company during our fiscal year are eligible for distribution
to members based on the amount and type of product or service
purchased by the member. The Conserv FS, Inc. Board of Directors
determine the amount of profit (assuming there is a profit) to
be distributed each year after the audited results are known.
Typically profits are distributed in a combination of Conserv
FS, Inc. stock and cash. Stock certificate redemption is
determined by the Board of Directors annually. The directors are
elected by the shareholders at our annual meeting.
For more information about becoming a member
of our cooperative, please contact us. Benefits for each farm
bureau will be outlined elsewhere in this webpage.
I’m proud of our employees and our company. I
believe we are a good company to do business with and a good
partner with the businesses that we serve. Our customer base
includes many "big name", well-established successful
businesses. We also serve many smaller businesses and are
pleased to have played a part in their early success. Thanks
again for visiting our web site.
